Meet Dr. Marla Jahnke
Founder & Pediatric Dermatologist

Hi! I’m Dr. Marla Jahnke, and I cannot wait to meet you and your family.

My journey in pediatric dermatology began over a decade ago. In 2013, I became one of the first board-certified pediatric dermatologists in Michigan—one of only a few hundred in the entire United States. Since then, I’ve had the distinct honor of caring for tens of thousands of children, treating everything from common newborn rashes to complex genetic skin conditions.

A Modern Approach to Specialized Care

Navigating the healthcare system is hard—and it’s only getting harder. Between months-long waitlists, insurance hurdles, and impersonal call centers, simply seeing a specialist can feel like a marathon. When the appointment finally arrives, you’re often stuck in a crowded waiting room with restless children, only to be met with a rushed appointment.

I started Bright Lights Pediatric Dermatology to change that.

After years of seeing how virtual care transforms the patient experience, I launched Bright Lights Pediatric Dermatology in 2026 with a simple goal: provide elite specialist access without the traditional hurdles. By focusing on Telemedicine, I bring expert dermatological care directly to your family, on your terms.

Why Choose a Direct-Care Model?

By working directly for you—not an insurance company—we’ve removed the "red tape." This modern approach offers:

  • Immediate Access: Skip the months of waiting anxiously while your child’s condition worsens. There is no need for referrals or prior authorizations.

  • True Convenience: No commutes, no parking hassles, and no time wasted in waiting rooms.

  • Child-Centered Comfort: Your child is seen where they feel safest—right at home.

  • Quality Time: Without insurance distractions, our focus remains entirely on your child’s health and your peace of mind.

While our practice is primarily virtual, I remain deeply committed to my Michigan community and offer in-person appointments when a hands-on approach is medically necessary.

I look forward to partnering with you to help your child shine.

How It Works

Step 1: Simple Scheduling

Complete a short online questionnaire and send photos for a FREE preliminary evaluation by Dr. Jahnke. She will determine if the visit is appropriate for virtual care or needs in-person care. You will then receive a calendar to book your appointment directly at a time that works for your family.

Step 2: Expert Care at Home

Most visits are conducted via our secure, high-definition Telehealth platform. This provides your child with the comfort of their own home and gives you the convenience of specialized care without the commute or taking meaningful time from your family’s obligations like work or school.

Step 3: Direct, Transparent Pricing

We are a "Direct Pay" practice. You pay a clear, upfront fee for the care you receive. With today’s high insurance deductibles, many families find our model costs the same—or even less—than traditional insurance-based visits, without the hidden bills later.

Step 4: Personalized Follow-Up

If an in-person physical exam or procedure is necessary, in-office appointments are available. Either way, you get old-fashioned, quality time with a board-certified specialist who knows your child.

The Result?

No authorizations. No red tape. Just exceptional subspecialty care when your child needs it most.

More about us

  • My goal is to educate caregivers and patients to manage their condition. Treatments plans are comprehensive with the goal to empower the family to manage their child’s care. This allows us to keep follow up appointments to a minimum. If more frequent care is needed, however, I will (of course) be available at appropriate intervals.

  • I know that when a child struggles, the entire family often does too.

Skin health is deeply connected to a child and family’s overall well-being. An itchy child often isn't sleeping well, which can affect school, their relationships, and their mood. It also affects the caregivers in similar ways. When a child feels embarrassed or insecure about their skin, it affects their confidence and a whole host of psychosocial dynamics may be at play.

What looks like a skin problem on the surface is often a family-wide challenge.

At Bright Lights, I recognize that:

    • The "small things" matter. Something that seems medically minor can be a major source of stress for a family.

    • Resilience is key. I've seen many children flourish even with complex conditions, and I am here to support that strength.

    • Every family is unique. You have your own goals and needs, and my job is to support to them.

I promise to always keep your child’s best interests at heart and your family’s goals in mind. I can’t wait to partner with you.

  • Navigating medical billing is one of the most stressful parts of healthcare for the patient and physician. At Bright Lights Pediatric Dermatology, I believe in fairness and transparency. I do not charge for every "big or little extra." My fees are straightforward and include the administrative support you need, such as prior authorizations for medications and superbills for insurance reimbursement upon request.

Step 1: The Free Pre-Visit Assessment

Before you ever pay a fee, I provide a complimentary clinical review. I will evaluate your child’s needs to ensure that:

    • The condition is a good fit for telemedicine or a focused in-office visit.

    • I am the right specialist to manage your child’s specific care.

    • We gather any pre-visit items to ensure the productivity of our time together.

    • New visits $325

    • Return visits $200

    • Biopsies: $175

    • Full Accutane course $900 (regardless of # of visits needed within 18 months of start)

    • Procedures: individual procedure prices will be provided upon request

Note: Fees do not include medications, imaging, pathology, or laboratory fees. You may continue to use your health insurance and preferred pharmacy for these external services.
