Bright Lights Pediatric Dermatology provides direct pay pediatric dermatology care. We offer comprehensive dermatologic care for children with any concern. For telemedicine visits, patients must be in the state of Michigan at the time of their visit.

First, telemedicine allows for several unique aspects of care. Kids are comfortable, you’re not waiting in a waiting room for an eternity, Dr. Jahnke can see the home environment and your skin care products/medications. Great photos and time to obtain a good history make visits extremely productive and most families leave surprised at how effective and easy visits are. If you’re hesitant about the telemedicine model, let us know but we encourage you to stay open minded.
Dr. Jahnke has been identified as a leader in the field of teledermatology and asked to sit on the Society for Pediatric Dermatology Telemedicine task force and author a national publication for other dermatologists: https://www.hmpgloballearningnetwork.com/site/thederm/cover-story/pediatric-teledermatology. She has been practicing telemedicine since as early as the mid-2000’s.
-
Dr. Jahnke reviews every intake BEFORE the first visit to assess if telemedicine visits are appropriate or in-person visits are necessary. As an expert in telemedicine, you will get great care no matter how you or your child is seen.

Bright Lights Pediatric Dermatology is a "Direct Pay" provider. This means we do not contract directly with insurance companies, allowing us to focus 100% of our time on your child's care rather than on administrative paperwork.
However, many families are able to receive partial or full reimbursement for our visits through their "Out-of-Network" benefits by easily submitting a Superbill. A Superbill is a detailed medical receipt that contains the information insurance companies require to process a claim
How to Seek Reimbursement
Request a Superbill: Simply let us know you’d like a Superbill during your appointment. We will provide it to you at no extra charge.
Submit to Your Insurance: Most insurance companies allow you to upload this document directly through their member portal or mail it in with a simple "Member Claim Form."
Receive Your Benefit: If you have out-of-network coverage, your insurance company may mail you a check directly or apply the visit cost toward your out-of-network deductible.
Three Questions to Ask Your Insurance Provider
If you want to know your coverage ahead of time, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
"Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for office visits?"
"Do I have an out-of-network deductible that must be met first?"
"What is the 'allowable amount' for office visits with codes 99203, 99204, 99213. 99214 for a dermatology visit?"
Are telemedicine visits covered in these benefits?
FSA & HSA Accounts
Because Dr. Jahnke is a board-certified physician, services at Bright Lights are almost always considered a qualifying medical expense. You can typically use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) card to pay for visits and procedures directly.

Please reach out. We generally do not negotiate our rates just like any other professional (attorney, accountant, etc) or fee for service business (hairdresser, spa, electrician, plumber, etc) you encounter. That being said, patients have traveled from out of state or even internationally to see Dr. Jahnke, often after waiting years to get answers. “I love what I do and if I am a last resort, let’s find a way.”

Yes! We are here to help you transition college students who are in Michigan into adulthood. Families who live out of state seek our help for continuity of care for their students at University of Michigan, Michigan State, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern, Michigan Tech and more. Telemedicine appointments make it easy for college students to be seen when they need and for those on accutane/isotretinoin to continue treatment from another physician without interruption.
